The Driller Killer

1979 US video by Abel Ferrara

Power tools only make a brief appearance in the film but the cover picture of a power drill boring into a guys forehead probably started the press baying for blood.

Ken Penry, Deputy Director of the BBFC, suggested that the video could be passed if the drilling scenes were removed but somehow no one took him up on this offer.

Teenagers battle and lose to the spirits unleashed from the Book of the Dead. Notable rape of girl by marauding tree roots.

The banned video had in fact already been cut to delete close-ups of limbs being severed and a pencil being pushed into a girls leg.

Available uncut on Dutch video and an excellent US restored version.

Fun starts when an ancient tome is unearthed and used to summon up a pack of man eating pigs into an unfortunates girls bedroom.Decapitation, disembowelments and open heart surgery with a sword follow. The climax involves a nail launched from a crucifix flying into the baddies head.
