When Homer's efforts to raise some extra money for Christmas go awry, he is rescued by Santa's Little Helper. 
002 "Bart the Genius" Bart cheats on a school aptitude test and gets placed in a school for gifted children. 
003 "Homer's Odyssey" Homer does an about face and becomes an anti-nuclear activist after losing his job at the nuclear power plant. 
004 "There's No Disgrace Like Home" Homer discovers that other's families can live well together when he takes his to a company picnic and they make a spectacle of themselves.

The skeleton disappears and when it reappears it carries a foreboding message about the end of the world.

187 "Reality Bites" Homer purchases a souped-up car from a police auction and the former owner breaks the honor system at the Springfield prison to save his car. The reality of needing to lie to sell real estate bothers her conscience, especially after she sells the "murder house" to the Flanders. 
188 "Miracle on Evergreen Terrace" Bart sneaks downstairs and opens one of his Christmas presents early. Playing with his gift, a fire truck, causes a fire that melts their plastic tree, so he hides the evidence of his deed and claims that a burglar has stolen their Christmas. The town of Springfield opens their hearts and their pcoketbooks to the Simpson family, until the truth comes out.
189 "All Singing, All Dancing (aka Clip Show #4)" Homer rents "Paint Your Wagon" and is put off by all the singing and dancing, especially by tough guys Clint Eastwood and Lee Marvin. Then the family reminds him via clips about the many times he and other members of the family and town have broken into song and dance. 
190 "Bart Carny" The carnival comes to town and Bart wrecks the main attraction, Hitler's car. To work off the debt, he and Homer become Carnys. After failing to bribe an official, Homer and Bart lose the ring toss booth, owned by Cooder and his son. Conforming to the carny code, they allow Cooder and son to stay at their house. Cooder and his son scheme and take over the house as squatters, until Homer challenges them to an all or nothing ring toss. 
191 "The Joy of Sect" Homer, his family and most of Springfield are sucked into a joining a religious cult. Burns tries to start, seeing an opportunity to pay even less in taxes. Marge escapes and along with Flanders, Lovejoy and Willy attempt to deprogram Homer, the kids and eventually the rest of Springfield. 
192 "Das Bus" Otto takes the kids on a bus trip, however, there is an accident that causes the bus to go off the bridge. The bus is swept out to sea and the kids are washed up on a desert island. Waiting to be rescued, the children struggle for survival a la Lord of the Flies. Meanwhile, Homer sets up a business on the Internet, after all, if Flanders can, why can't he? His new business picques the interest of Bill Gates. 
193 "The Last Temptation of Krust" Krusty's act bombs when he appears at a comedy charity event. He discovers that telling the truth, gets him big laughs and finds new success. How long before Krusty sells out? 
194 "Dumbbell Indemnity" Homer helps Moe to find a woman. Moe eventually finds a woman who finds him acceptable and he begins to treat her like royalty. Unfortunately, he maxes out his Player's Club card. To cover his debt, he asks Homer to steal his car and have it destroyed by the 10:15. Leave it to Homer.

NOTE: It was only a matter of time before Helen Hunt did a voice on the series. After all, she is married to Hank Azaria, voice of Moe. And has or does appear on her series Mad About You. 


195 "Lisa the Simpson" After having trouble trying to solve a brainteaser and other mounting evidence, Lisa fears that the Simpson gene, Grampa has told her about, is afflicting her. Meanwhile, Grampa's friend Jasper places himself in suspended animation in Apu's freezer. Jasper wants to see the future. Seeing an opportunity to make money, Apu turns the KWIK-E-MART into a FREAK-E-MART. 
196 "This Little Wiggy" Marge decides the one thing Ralph Wiggum could use is a friend, so she insists that Bart become his friend. Bart is reluctant to go along with it, until he discovers that Chief Wiggum has a key that will unlock every door in Springfield. Once the key is in Bart's possession, he and Ralph spend time exploring Springfield late at night including a trip into the old prison. 
197 "Simpson Tide" Homer gets fired from the nuclear plant. He decides to join the Naval reserve. Because of his nuclear experience, he is assigned to a nuclear submarine for a war games exercise. When the captain leaves Homer in charge and is later incapacitated, look out. Meanwhile, Milhouse gets an earring. 
198 "The Trouble With Trillions" When the IRS subjects Homer to an audit, they agree to let Homer off if he will agree to help the FBI. Homer is supposed to help them recover a trillion-dollar bill that they believe is in the possession of C. Montgomery Burns. Instead Homer and Smithers help Burns to escape the country, where they try to buy Cuba from Castro. 
199 "Girlie Edition" Lisa becomes anchor for a new news program for kids, with help from Bart, Nelson and Milhouse. Bart's on camera presence gets him upgraded to co-anchor. After he overhears his sister calling him stupid, Bart seeks some advice from Kent Brockman on how to be an anchor. He follows Brockman's advice and begins covering human interest stories that make him popular and Lisa jealous. 
200 "Trash of the Titans" After having a run-in with the garbage men, Homer decides to run for Sanitation Commissioner. His campaign antics include interrupting a U2 concert. He wins the election by landslide based upon his campaign slogan: "Can't someone else do it?" Once elected he blows the year's budget in month by buying new trucks, uniforms, etc. To make up the deficit, he allows other cities to dump their garbage in an old abandoned mine. The mineshaft isn't bottomless, something has got to give and it does.

NOTE: This episode was "Dedicated to the memory of Linda McCartney." Linda and her husband Paul appeared as themselves in "Lisa the Vegitarian". 


201 "King of the Hill" When Bart is disappointed with Homer's peformance in a game held at the church picnic, Homer begins working out late at night to get into shape. He begins to eat Powersauce bars and works out with Rainer Wolfcastle. When even Wolfcastle won't meet the challenge of the "Murderhorn," the tallest mountain in Springfield, Bart volunteers Homer for the job. Not wanting to disappoint Bart again, Homer goes for it. 
202 "Lost Our Lisa" With the day off from school, Bart uses some indutrial adhesive to glue novelty items to his face. As a result Marge must take him to the doctor to have them removed, preventing Lisa from attending an exhibit at the museum. Lisa uses her brain to outwit her father into letting her take her first solo bus trip. Everything would be okay, excet Lisa gets on the #22A bus instead of the #22 and gets lost somewhere outside of town. 
203 "Natural Born Kissers" When their anniversary dinner is a flop and their love life seems to lack luster, they try to spice it up. Homer and Marge seek to spice up their love life by traveling to a bed & breaksfast. Meanwhile, Lisa and Bart use Grampa's mine detector to find treasure and they find an alternate to in Casablanca. Homer and Marge discover that the fear of getting caught is the spice they need until they are caught bearing it all. 
204 "Lard of the Dance" Homer discovers that there is money to be made selling used grease. Lisa tries to fit in when a new girl comes to school and becomes very popular. 

Season Ten
1998/1999

205 "The Wizard of Evergreen Terrace"

Homer discovers that he has reached middle age. For his mid-life crisis, he decides to become an inventor, like Thomas Edison. Frustrated when he discovers an idea he had was already created by Edison, but never marketed. Homer and Bart go to the Edison museum, where Homer hopes he can destroy the only copy of Edison's work.

Note: The broadcast of this episode and the rerun from the provious week, both featured a clip of The Simpsons production staff receiving their Emmy for their work in the 9th season. Does anyone know who the individual was that was making the speech and the dediciation to the late Phil Hartman? Mike Scully or Sam Simon perhaps? 


206 "Bart the Mother" Bart shoots Nelson's BB gun and kills a bird, feeling guilty he takes the bird's nest with plan's to hatch its eggs. When the eggs hatch, lizards appear instead of birds. Principal Skinner says that the lizards are bird-killing parasites that must be killed, it's the law. Feeling maternal, Bart tries to save the lizards.

Note: This was advertised as the last appearance of Phil Hartman's voice, subsequently the episode was dedicated as follows:

"In loving Memory of our friend, Phil Hartman." 


207 "Tree House of Horrors IX" a)."Hell Toupée"

It's his third strike, Snake is sent to the electric chair. He vows revenge on all on those who were there when he was caught, Apu, Moe & Bart. Snake is electrocuted and his organs are saved for transplant. The beneficiary of his hair is one Homer J. Simpson. The hair begins exacting the revenge promised by its former owner.

b)."The Terror of Tiny Toon"

Marge takes the batteries from the TV remote control. Bart substitues plutonium with strange results as he and Lisa become cartoon characters in an episode of Itchy & Scratchy, where the violence is real.

c)."Starship Poopers"

When Maggie gets her first tooth, a fang, and loses her legs, which are replaced by tentacles. Marge confesses that Homer is not the father, but rather Kang is. To settle the dispute on what would be better for Maggie's future, Bart suggests they go on The Jerry Springer Show and of course a fight or two breaks out.
